Clinicians are the heart of the organization and the driving force behind increasing access to mental health care. Since 1991, more than two thousand mental health professionals have given their time to others seeking help.

Why Volunteer?

When you volunteer with Pro Bono Counseling, you are part of a bigger movement: to improve access to mental health care in Maryland for all individuals, of all backgrounds, irrespective of their financial means.

How Does It Work?

Once you are enrolled, you can specify your areas of specialty and the kinds of cases you would like to work with. Our clinical staff will then match you with appropriate clients. You are always free to accept or decline a referral for any reason.

What are the benefits?

We couldn’t do this work without you. As a way of showing our gratitude, this is what we can offer:

  • Expand your range
      • When you partner with Pro Bono Counseling, you gain access to clients who come from a diversity of backgrounds. All new clients are thoroughly screened by PBC’s clinical staff members during the intake process, and we only match clients who are interested in exploring their mental health needs through talk therapy.
  • Stay up to date
      • Through workshops and events, we provide critical training and supplemental resources to our volunteer counselors. We are approved by the APA and the Maryland Social Work and Professional Counseling Boards to sponsor continuing education workshops for participating clinicians, at no cost to you. See our calendar for upcoming workshops.
  • Learn from the best!
      • Take your practice to the next level and learn from clinical director Sherri Bloom, an experienced LSCW-C, with over 20 years of experience. Sherri and the clinical team are available to support you by providing case consultation for your work with PBC clients.
