OBJECTIVES
Mental Health Professionals who participate will:
  • Understand the challenges that contemporary communication technology poses for families, individuals and couples
  • Identify techniques that will assist couples to use technology to enhance their relationship
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of Internet addiction and victimization and methods of assisting addicted individuals and those who have been victimized
  • Ascertain ways to coordinate families, schools and other services to support resilience in adolescents and children who have been harmed by the Internet
  • Strengthen their skills of empowering parents and couples to develop negotiating techniques to set limits
  • Learn strategies to assist clients to incorporate contemporary communications technology into relationships in a healthy and beneficial manner

PRESENTER PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHIES
 
Laurel Fay, M.S., LCMFT is the principal and owner of Laurel Fay and Associates, LLC, a private psychotherapy practice in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she specializes in couple and marital issues. Ms. Fay has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Child and Family Studies from Syracuse University, and a Masters of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland at College Park. In addition to being a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist, she holds both the Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor designations from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and is President‐Elect of their Middle Atlantic Division, which represents Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Delaware. Ms. Fay has given workshops on relationships to several organizations, including the Maryland Psychological Association. Her articles have been featured in “Your Health” magazine (2001) and the Montgomery County Mental Health Association’s newsletter (“Clinical Corner”, MHA News, Summer 2003), and she is listed in Who’s Who of American Women.
 
Chris Kraft, Ph.D. is currently an Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Co-director of Clinical Services for the Sexual Behaviors Consultation Unit. He is also a part-time Lecturer in the Psychological and Brain Sciences Department at the Johns Hopkins University, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences where he has taught two courses on human sexuality for seven years. His clinical work focuses on treatment issues related to all aspects of gender and sexuality issues. Dr. Kraft specializes in treating sexually addictive/compulsive behaviors along with marital/sex therapy for couples who are experiencing marital/sexual distress. Marital sexual challenges treated include low or mismatched sexual desire, erection/arousal difficulties, genital pain, orgasmic problems and excessive sexual internet use.
 
Brad Sachs, PhD is a psychologist, educator, and best-selling author specializing in clinical work with children, adolescents, couples, and families, in Columbia, Maryland, and the Founder and Director of The Father Center, a program designed to meet the needs of new, expectant, and experienced fathers. His newest book is entitled Emptying the Nest: Launching Your Young Adult Toward Success and Self-Reliance, and his most recent book, When No One Understands: Letters to a Teenager on Life, Loss, and The Hard Road to Adulthood, is based on his between-sessions correspondence with a suicidal adolescent whom he was treating. He is the author of numerous other books, including The Good Enough Child: How to Have an Imperfect Family and Be Perfectly Satisfied, which was named as an Editor’s Choice by Amazon.com and became its best-selling parenting title that year.  It was featured on NBC’s The Today Show, and was excerpted in Family Circle Magazine. He has also written The Good Enough Teen: Raising Adolescents with Love and Acceptance (Despite How Impossible They Can Be). Dr. Sachs regularly writes articles on family life for magazines such as Redbook, Parenting, Parents, Child, and American Baby, is renowned for his creative and innovative treatment of children and families, and has lectured and led seminars and workshops both nationally and internationally.  He has been interviewed on over three hundred radio and television shows, including The Today Show, 20/20, The Montel Williams Show, The Sally Jesse Raphael Show, and The Diane Rehm Show.

CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION
The Maryland Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Maryland Psychological Association maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
 
The Maryland Boards of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors and Therapists certify that this program meets the criteria for 6 credit hours of continuing education for social workers, professional counselors, and therapists licensed in Maryland. 
 
CE Credit is granted to participants with documented attendance at individual workshops and completed evaluation forms for those sessions. Attendance is monitored.  Credit will not be granted to registrants who are more than 15 minutes late, are absent for more than 15 minutes, or depart more than 15 minutes early from a session.  Credit will not be granted to registrants who do not submit a completed evaluation form at the end of the session.  It is the responsibility of registrants to comply with these requirements.
